FORMER STATE SENATOR, LYNN MAYOR THOMAS McGEE ENDORSES TRISTAN SMITH FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE

August 8, 2022 – (LYNN) Former State Senator and Lynn Mayor, Thomas McGee, has  endorsed Tristan Smith for State Representative in the 8th Essex District.

“Having represented Marblehead, Swampscott and Lynn for many years, I understand the  issues that face our communities, and I know what it takes to be an effective state legislator,”  McGee said. “Tristan Smith has those qualities.”

McGee continued, saying: “While I have known Tristan for a long time, I had the chance to see  his leadership in action when he worked to put together the Lynn all-city track and field and  cross country meets, bringing together hundreds of athletes from across the city. He brought  focus and an emphasis on collaboration that was impressive and has led to the tremendous  success of those events. Having spoken with him about his priorities several times since he  announced his candidacy, I am convinced that Tristan is the candidate who best understands  this District and has the skills to be the advocate that we need at this time.”

“Mayor McGee’s support means so much to me,” Smith said. “He has led the way on so many  important priorities for Marblehead, Swampscott and Lynn over the course of the 26 years that  he has served our communities.”

McGee was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1995 and was the State Senator for  the 3rd Essex District, which includes Marblehead, Swampscott and Lynn from 2002 to 2018.  He served as Mayor of the City of Lynn from 2018 until 2022.

Smith, a lifelong resident of the 8th Essex District, graduated summa cum laude from Salem  State University, and received his juris doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 2022.

He has also received the endorsements of former Congressman John Tierney and Jackie Belf Becker, long-time member of the Marblehead Select Board among others.
