In the aftermath of the town election held on June 21, much of the discussion has surrounded the contrasting results for the two tax override ballot questions, with Question One passing easily and Question Two going down in a resounding defeat. Though incumbents were generally successful in their quest for re-election, there were a few surprises, and a recount is now underway in the very close race for the Light Department.
Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Attorney General found that the Marblehead Board of Health violated open meeting laws, and Marblehead is about to undertake a significant road project to remake the intersection of Pleasant, Village, and Vine streets. The Marblehead Planning Board hosted an initial meeting to discuss the approval of Accessory Dwelling Units (better known as in-law apartments) in Marblehead to increase diversity and the supply of affordable housing. And Marblehead residents reacted to the recent Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.
