Open House offers glimpse of new manufacturing site at Little Harbor

Krisha Plauche, owner of Onboard Interiors and Hood Canvas at 40 Doaks Lane is pleased to announce a new manufacturing space and business venture at Little Harbor and invites the public to an open house on Thursday, June 8 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Plauche is an award-winning marine fabricator who has operated Onboard Interiors for 20 years. She recently acquired Hood Canvas and will now create a one-stop shop for New England boaters with a range of interior and exterior fabric needs. 

"We will be combining our showroom and manufacturing,” Plauche said. “This is a good step combining offerings for the local boater. Our interior work is about making you comfortable in the boat. The exterior spaces are, in general, more function-based but help you create comfortable spaces away from sun and weather.  We strive to combine form and function and curate our custom designs for each customer.”

Onboard Interiors worked collaboratively for the last 20 years with Hood Canvas, formerly owned by Mark and Deb Hood, and when the Hood’s decided to retire, selling their business to Onboard Interiors was the natural choice.  The company’s expanded workspace has easy access for drop off and pick up, in a workspace filled with well-lit natural light and five industrial sewing machines. Plauche's showroom also showcases the many subtle, nautical, and modern designs and fixtures that she uses in her interior work for discerning customers who appreciate her custom designs. 

Plauche is also excited to bring manufacturing back to Little Harbor, which was once the site of Ted Hood's company Little Harbor where sail making, boatbuilding and design kept Marblehead, a town that has five active yacht clubs, firmly in the spotlight as a center of innovation and development in the marine industry.
                                               
This continues today in part because of businesses like CW Hood Yachts, Jim Taylor Yacht Designs, Doug Zurn Yacht Designs as well as many others.

Located adjacent to a working boatyard, Plauche hopes that she will have a chance to meet those who may be looking to make upgrades to their boat's interior or may be looking for new, attractive boat cushions, dodgers and sail covers.
