School Committee Delays Vote on Interim Superintendent Hire

Citing the significance of the decision and the difficulty with reaching all of the references in the limited available time frame, the Marblehead School Committee decided during its meeting on Thursday evening October 5, 2023 to delay the deliberation and vote on the hiring of an interim superintendent.

The two candidates under consideration are Jannell D. Pearson-Campbell and Theresa McGuinness.

Due to the required 48 hours posting notice for a public meeting and some conflicts for specific School Committee members, scheduling an alternate meeting time proved challenging. The School Committee eventually agreed to meet on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. A meeting location has not yet been determined. 

School Committee member Jenn Schaeffner expressed appreciation for the fact that the delay would allow extra time for contacting the candidates' references, and she emphasized that all School Committee members should feel free to contact any references rather than limiting themselves to the individuals they had been assigned. "I think it's important," she said, that "at any point, if any of us want to call any of these references we should be able to, or the candidates."
