Marblehead School Committee Seeks Applicants for Vacant Seat
The Marblehead School Committee has issued a press release requesting interested applicants to apply to fill the remaining unexpired term made available by the resignation of Emily Barron on October 27, 2022.
Originally, the School Committee voted 2-2 to allow the seat to remain open until the next municipal election, which will be held in June 2023. However, at the Select Board meeting on November 16, Chair Moses Grader announced that the Select Board, in conjunction with the School Committee, would go forward with soliciting applications and filling the seat.
As specified by Massachusetts state law, the School Committee and the Select Board will meet jointly to interview applicants and vote for an individual to fill the vacant seat. With five current members of the Select Board and four current members of the School Committee, the selected applicant will need to gain a majority of the available votes to be appointed.
Individuals interested in being considered should send a cover letter and a detailed resume. Materials should be sent on the same day to both the School Committee and to the Select Board and may be submitted by postal mail, by email, or by hand. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 4 PM, and the press release notes that late applications will not be accepted. Applications should be submitted to:
School Administration Office, Attn: Ms. Sarah Fox
9 Widger Road, Marblehead, MA 01945

Office of the Select Board, Attn: Mr. Moses Grader
188 Washington Street, Abbot Hall, Marblehead, MA 01945
wileyk@marblehead.org (subject line: School Committee Application)
The joint session of the School Committee and the Select Board to interview candidates and conduct the vote is scheduled for Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Abbot Hall.
The individual selected will serve out the remaining unexpired term, until June 2023, when Marblehead town elections will be held. To remain on the School Committee beyond this point, the newly appointed member will need to seek election through the regular process.
